油浸显微镜又称水平显微镜，是研究宝石内外部特征的关键仪器，尤其是内部包体的研究，更是无法替代的仪器设备；用油浸显微镜观察时，由于待观察的宝石是放在与其折射率相近的浸油中，宝石的表面反射等造成的轮廓完全消失，而与宝石折射率有差异的包体则完全显示出来。
Immersion microscope called horizontal microscope, is the key instrument of studying internal and external characteristics of gems, especially the inclusions. Because refractive index of the sample is close to refrative index of the oil, contour of the gem completely disappears and the inclusions are displayed.
